H Craig is an artist not by choice, by design. Eyes that consume all that is seen and more. Surgeon’s hands and precision with blade or brush. A mind overflowing with endless worlds and possibilities, his ideas and concepts continue to fascinate and intrigue.

Benefiting from a lifetime of travel and the embrace of many cultures, H Craig calls several cities home. Experiencing the world as one who is returning “home”, when he visits for the first time, has forged lifelong relationships with people and communities from each place he has traveled. A student of social anthropology, religion, and philosophy H Craig delights in discovering connections between religions, cuisine and customs. His interest in music, cinema, literature, the audacity of surrealists like artist Dali and impressionist Pollack may further explain some of the artist’s, disparate influences and forms of creative expression.

Formally trained as a painter and a filmmaker, he is equally influenced by, batik art, and architecture. By the time he arrived at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, H Craig was represented by galleries in NY and Illinois and featured in solo and group exhibitions. Always honing his skills and seeking a new challenge, while attending SAIC, the artist began a lifelong interest in paper sculpture and mask-making, and instillation art that has taken his work to Asia, Africa and Europe.

A working artist is blessed in many ways! The knowledge that my concepts and design, my creativity and my ability to present work worthy of accolades, awards, interest and desire is a responsibility that I treasure. -H Craig
